JSON Formatter & Validator
Pretty-print, validate and minify JSON instantly.
About this tool
A JSON formatter is one of the most-used utilities on the web, and for good reason: raw JSON that comes back from an API, a configuration file, or a teammate's chat message is almost never pleasant to read. It arrives as a single dense line, dozens of keys deep, with no indentation to show you the structure. Our formatter takes that wall of text and turns it into clean, two-space-indented, color-free (but clearly nested) output you can actually reason about.
How it works is simple but powerful. Paste any string — valid or almost valid — into the input box and press Format. The tool parses it with the browser's native JSON engine and re-prints it with proper nesting. If the input is broken, instead of failing silently it pinpoints the exact line and character where parsing stopped, so you spend seconds fixing a missing comma instead of minutes squinting. Press Minify to collapse the whole document back onto one line, which is what you want when a payload is going into a URL, a log line, or a tight storage field.
Who reaches for this daily? Backend developers debugging REST and GraphQL responses; QA engineers comparing expected versus actual fixtures; data analysts normalizing exports before loading them into a warehouse; and technical writers documenting request and response shapes. It is also a teaching aid: newcomers can paste a blob and immediately see what "well-formed" looks like.
Privacy is built in. Everything runs in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you paste is uploaded, logged, or sent anywhere. That matters because JSON frequently contains tokens, user emails, internal field names, and test secrets — exactly the kind of data you should never hand to a random third-party website. Here it stays on your machine.
For best results, format before you diff. If you are comparing two versions of a config, format both first; the line-by-line diff then shows only real changes instead of whitespace noise. When you build your own site from this template, keep the copy original and example-driven — Google rewards tool pages that explain the problem, show real examples, and answer the questions a searcher actually has.
